In the line of work that I am in, I have to fully believe in the information that I am presenting.  If I don’t believe in it, I won’t be enthusiastic about it.  I also have to be a bit more animated in my presentation.  When something is fun for me, I tend to be a lot more enthusiastic about it.  I spend plenty of time figuring out how to make bland material more interesting so that it will have a better chance of being received.

I know how I feel when I am listening to a presentation or someone is speaking and they do not have high energy.  I lose focus and begin to think that if they are not that interested in it, why should I be?  A person’s delivery, whether passionate or not, can make the difference in whether the message is well-received or not.  There have been times when I know that I have totally bombed in the presentation of something just by the way my audience reacts (or doesn’t react).  When you are bombing it is a hard thing to take and you must be able to try to recover quickly to regain the attention of your audience.

On the contrary, when you are filled with enthusiasm and have a captive audience, it works wonders for the deliverer.  I know that is the case with me.  I get more pumped up when I see that what I am doing is going over well.  It makes me get more into what I am doing and I even try to get up close and personal with my listeners.

I also believe that enthusiasm is contagious.  Many times people will go to something not knowing what to really expect and depending on what is said and how it is said it can change to entire mood of the audience.  I used to be in direct sales (another lifetime ago) and believe me when I tell you that it is not an easy thing to try to sell things in a bad economy.  You wouldn’t believe how a little enthusiasm can sell people on something.
